ABOVE: Aldens Christmas 1965 catalog headlined this fantastic trio as "Robots - For Real Excitement." We couldn't agree more. Cragstan landed prime full-color real estate for Talking Robot and Ranger Robot, both new releases. Horikawa Engine Robot... renamed Gear Robot by Aldens... was making his second consecutive appearance. BELOW: Chicago mail-order Goliaths Spiegel and Aldens take a slighty different approach with catalog covers for 1965. While Spiegel plays up easy credit and a dazzling $12,500 sweepstakes, Aldens practical product-driven cover included brand names and prices. Interestingly both retailers selected Cragstan's Talking and Ranger Robots for 1965.

BELOW: As with Aldens, Cragstan landed prime color real estate for both the Talking and Ranger Robots in the 1965 Spiegel catalog. Spiegel was the first major U.S. retailer to feature the red version of Cragstan's Mr. Robot in 1962 and brought the robot back for a return engagement in the 1963 catalog. The sample Talking Robot photographed by both Spiegel and Aldens is the variant with the Cragstan imprinted chest plate.
